Kathy Griffin Mulls Replacing Joan Rivers on ‘Fashion Police’ – ABC News (blog)
Kathy Griffin is still mulling whether to take the late Joan Rivers’ place on “Fashion Police.”
“It’s definitely something that I’ve put a lot of thought into,” Griffin told People. “Obviously there is an emotional tie for me because Joan was such a good friend of mine, a close friend, truly a mentor – but also a legit friend. We talked about everything, and we joked about everything on the table, so it’s something that I’ve been thinking about for a while and I think it’s something they’ve been thinking about too.”
Earlier this month, Griffin revealed that she had been offered the job after the 81-year-old comedian’s death in September.
She told People that she’d even discussed joining the show with Rivers while she was still alive.
“Ironically, she and I talked about it many times,” Griffin said. “She would joke that, no matter what, I should always get 10 percent less than she got.”
Griffin joked that she has the experience it takes for the job.
“I have been a fashion ‘don’t’ for years!” she said. “I used to actually laminate my ‘What Was She Thinking?’ pictures and put them on my refrigerator, but they then covered the entire wall. I am not afraid to be a ‘do’ or a ‘don’t.’ We’ll see what happens.”
In September, E! Network, which airs the show, said in a statement that it would go on without Rivers: “We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of Fashion Police. We decided, with Melissa Rivers’ blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue. Fashion Police will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, Jan. 12.”
