A pleather mini skirt for babies? Yes, the new collection from Kardashian Kids includes one for newborns that’s complete with an attached diaper cover — and one mom is so outraged by the mature fashion for infants that she’s launched a petition on Change.org demanding that Babies R Us remove the line from stores.
Amie Logan of Roeland Park, Kansas, makes the case that the Toys R Us recently pulled the Breaking Bad dolls because parents complained the figurines toting baggies of pretend meth were inappropriate in a children’s store and Logan thinks the clothing line is equally unsuitable.
She writes in the petition:
I don’t want my child to grow up to be a Sex Tape star. You pulled the Breaking Bad toys because they promoted Drug use. You should pull this clothing line because it promotes bad behavior as well. The madness has to stop. If the toys are damaging so is the clothing.
The Babies R Us collection is an offshoot of the Kardashian Kollection, designed by TV stars and sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian. The line includes a $25 leatherette skirt, $25 leatherette leggings, $33 faux fur animal vest, and $12 leopard print onesies — in addition to tamer items such as a $33 quilted black jumper and a $22 top with a Peter Pan collar.
The abundance of black pleather, tight-fitting, short-hemmed and lacey items gives the latest Kardashian Kids line more of a rock star-chic feel than something sweet and innocent suited to little girls. But are the styles so extreme and edgy that they’re too mature for babies and little girls?
SFGate reached out to Toys R Us and spokesperson Kathleen Waugh responded, “We have no plans to pull the collection.”
