More mommy advice from Gisele Bundchen – Boston Herald
Supermodel mom Gisele Bundchen, who caught flack when she pontificated about breast-feeding, pregnancy weight gain and mommy multitasking, is under the gun again after opining that mothers should put themselves first in order to be effective parents.
“It’s very important to nourish yourself, take care of yourself. You know how they say on the plane you have to put the oxygen mask on first and then put it on your child? So I think it is the same, as a mum, to take care of myself,” Gisele told The Sunday Times of London.
“You can feel a bit guilty,” she continued. “But if I put my oxygen mask on first, if I’m feeling fulfilled and present and good about myself, then I’m going to be a much more patient, loving, understanding mother and wife. You have to fill your glass so that everyone can drink from it. That’s how I feel.”
The response from the interwebs was typically brutal.
“Only time will tell to see if Gisele has given good advice. If her kids turn out to be smack head junkie criminals as most famous kids become … then her advice was probably crap,” commented Paul Milana.
Added Jeshu Ben Pantera: “She’s gorgeous, but I certainly wouldn’t take advice from her about parenting. Modelling, how to stay fit and healthy — if you’ve got the time and money to do so — maybe, but parenting — no.”
And the Sydney Morning News declared: “Model Gisele Bundchen has put her foot in her mouth again.”
Of course, it’s not the first time the Chanel No. 5 pitchwoman has angered lesser mortals. She was hammered when she declared that there should be a law requiring women to breast-feed their babies for six months. She also bragged that she never wore maternity clothes when pregnant with her first kid, Benjamin, and that some women use pregnancy as an excuse to turn into “garbage disposals.”
Then there was the photo she posted on Instagram titled “Multitasking,” where she was being worked on by an army of hair, nail and makeup people while breast-feeding baby Vivian. That didn’t go over well either. …
But Bundchen, who from all appearances is a doting mother, did make some good points in her interview.
“Being a mother is the most important job,” she said. “Now there is this little being that needs you for everything.”
The supermodel also criticized the beauty ads that make up a big chunk of her estimated $45 million annual salary as “unattainable.”
Wow. Gi needs to tell that to Renee Zellweger!
