Under the direction of Eric Jennings, Vice President and Fashion Director of Menswear, a 20 year veteran of retail, the menswear division has hit its’ stride. With responsibilities that include forecasting seasonal trends, Mr. Jennings draws on his merchandising and sales experience to work at a national level across multiple price points, vendors and styles at Saks Fifth Avenue. He is the driving force in supporting the merchant team in putting together an assortment that is at once stylish, classic, trendy and elevated.

As a fixture in the front row of menswear runway shows in London, Milan, Paris and New York, I met Mr. Jennings at an event two years ago during London Collections: Men and he struck me as the perfect person to ask about men’s style. We recently chatted while I sat on a bench between our two homes in the West Chelsea neighborhood of New York City to discuss all things style:
Forbes Life: Are there any style combinations that you object to?
Eric Jennings: Yes, a business suit with driver shoes.
Forbes Life: Which city has the best-dressed men?
Eric Jennings: Milan

Eric Jennings: Pocket Squares
Forbes Life: What is the biggest mistake a man can make when getting dressed?
Eric Jennings: Wearing old, worn out socks and/or underwear. What’s inside matters just as much as what shows on the outside.
Forbes Life: What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?
Eric Jennings: My Made to Measure suits and shirts. The fits are just perfect.
Forbes Life: Being the Vice President and Men’s Fashion Director of Saks Fifth Avenue, you must be around quality garments all the time! What impresses you?
Eric Jennings: Indeed, I spend most of my day around quality garments. What impresses me most are garments that catch my eye with beautiful color, lure me in with tactile textures, wow me with quality of make, and blow me away with perfect fit.
Forbes Life: What designers do you love?
Eric Jennings: I love all the menswear designers we carry. They are like my children!
